The CITY OF POMPANO BEACH CULTURAL ARTS COMMITTEE has personally
selected the Pompano Beach female artist and motorcycle rider, Z. McCarthy
to exhibit a drawing entitled “The Auspicious Ride” at the Hillsboro
Lighthouse Art Show and Presentation celebrating the history of the
Hillsboro Beach Lighthouse.
“The Auspicious Ride” is a pencil, graphite and pastel drawing of
McCarthy’s Sportster motorcycle set in front of the Hillsboro Inlet and
Lighthouse. This drawing is a true representation of our modern Hillsboro
Lighthouse, Hillsboro Beach and the many motorcyclists that ride past it
every day.
Florida, especially South Florida, is home to many motorcyclists who
travel the roads of A1A to escape the grind and pressures of everyday
life. We sometime forget what a beautiful place we live in. However,
motorcyclists take advantage of this beauty as much as they possibly can.
We are a community of bikers, both man and women, that can ride our bikes
almost all year long.
The artworks at the exhibition were for not sale; this means much more to
the artists involved. This is a representation of our community’s
history, past and present. Z. McCarthy explains, “To have one of my
motorcycle drawings “The Auspicious Ride” representing the development
of our beach community is a tremendous honor. I have been an artist in
this area for almost 25 years and now, because of this exhibition, my art
and myself are now part of its’ permanent history.”
Z. McCarthy’s artwork along with other Hillsboro Lighthouse artworks and
photographs will be on display at the Herb Skolnick Center in Pompano
Beach through the month of August. Call (954) 786-4590 for visiting hours
and take a ride and enjoy the view.
