Morons in Myrtle

Here we go again. A familiar battle where free men and women are denied their constitutional 1st amendment rights, by, in this case the powers that be in Myrtle Beach and in the county of Horry S.C. These local politicians have decided who can and who can not pull permits in their fiefdom, and are in effect removing a vital, successful, revenue producing, gathering of law abiding citizens.

Road Food

When traveling as much as a busy Motorcycle Monster does, one of the important parts of hotel/road comfort (if there is such a thing) is having the ability to get a little snack or small meal together in the room or on the roadside without packing everything including the kitchen sink in your saddlebag...

"Unleash the Beast"

Popular motorcyclist event website www.motorcyclemonster.com recently went public with their newest Motorcycle Monster character in Daytona Beach Florida. “The Motorcycle Monster” was unleashed at Biktoberfest in a test to see how the...

Too Much Orange County Chopper...NOT

OK, will all of the Real Bikers / Wannabees / Motorcyclists/Enthusiasts/Dreamers who have watched either American Chopper (Orange County Choppers), Monster Garage (Jesse James), Motorcycle Mania (1 or 2) or the Chopper Build Off (Billy Lane, Dave Perowitz, or Indian Larry) please raise your right hand. Oh I forgot, I'm dealing with bikers...

40 Years

This motorcycle thing all started for me in about 1957. I remember looking through my mom’s chain link fence at this group of long-haired guys with leather jackets and beautiful two-wheeled machines in our neighbor’s backyard. I asked my brother Al what those machines were, and he said, “Harleys.” He then reminded me that mom had warned many times not to go around those “hoods.”

Bikeweek like a pro 2003

Last year I put together some ideas to help the novice "Bike Week Attendee" get around the monstrous Daytona event with a little less stress and also maybe help save some engines from overheating. With several years (probably 30) of Daytona's under my belt, I have made all of the mistakes a Bike Week visitor can make and most of them twice. I have rehashed last years article and am sending it out again with some minor changes in response to the rave reviews from last year...

Hooray for Leesburg

For those of you who frequent this spot in the magazine, you know that I've been hangin' with Harleys since the mid-1950s. You also know that I'm a fan of most vehicles, as long as they have only two wheels. Having owned probably 100 motorcycles over the past 40 years, I have also spent my fair share of time attending motorcycle events. From the giant annual affair in Daytona, to the more intimate settings like Lakeland's Roscoe’s Chili Challenge, I rarely miss an opportunity to be where the bikers are.

Insurance Article

Okay Riders, Heads up. Today is your lucky day; old Dano is going to give you a lesson on Florida’s Motorcycle Insurance law. Hold on now… before you click the page getting to the next article, I’m also going to tell you how to save some of those hard earned bucks and keep them in your pocket instead of giving them to some insurance company. Since writing this column...

Lots of Hugs for 2002

With the Holiday Season behind us, it's the time for reflection on the past year and time to make resolutions on what we personally might do in the coming year to make things better. First of all, the year 2001 is a year that will always be remembered because of the tragedy in New York. Along with dates like December 7, 1941 (Pearl Harbor), and November 22,1963 (JFK’s Assasination), these sad days in American history are a reminder of the sacrifices...

Some Good Guys Are Still Around

Having been riding for the better part of 35 years, it's fair to say that I have been disappointed while visiting motorcycle shops on more than one occasion. It is also fair to say that more than one of those disappointments came on trips when I intended to purchase a new or used motorcycle only to be either ignored or insulted by some less than cordial sales person who decided by my dashing good looks that I was unable to buy...

Touring Sunshine State

Having lived in Florida for the last 30 years and being an avid adventurer, I consider myself an expert on touring the Sunshine state. It is rare that I hear about a Florida route that I haven't traveled at least once. I first got Florida sand in my shoes in 1961 traveling with my family from Indiana on summer vacation. When we first unloaded our 57 Buick on Jacksonville Beach, I knew somehow, someday I would call Florida home.

Bikers Are The Best, Give Them a Hug

It's my favorite time of year. The weather is fine and riding is great. It is also the time when I am most proud to be a biker. I like to refer to this as the "Hugging time of year." You see, I get a little corny this time of year because I think the biker community deserves more credit than it receives. Bikers get very little credit from the media, (TV or newspapers) so old Dano believes that hugging is the answer to showing appreciation to the biker community. It's the time of year where the character of bikers really comes to the front. No, not the character you showed when you tried to crawl on stage at the wet-t contest or when you had one too many "brewskis"...

Dodging Bullets and Arriving Alive

Okay all ya'll Scooter Jockeys, listen up: This tale is more important than those “wet-t” adventures I usually expound upon while sippin’ on my Jim Beam elixir with my feet dangling in Cindy’s pool. I have some important safety info for everyone who braves the highways on two wheels. This stuff not only may keep you and your posse puttin’ along safely, it may save your life. Your ex-wives would...

I Love Fire Ants

The New Year brings out our usual list of resolutions and hopes for the future. After some serious medical problems a few years ago, I adjusted my thinking. I still try to improve the upcoming new year, but I also like to reflect on the great things I already have.

Leading a Group Motorcycle Ride

Being the leader of a motorcycle tour is more than being the first in line in a group of your motorcyclist friends. It is a responsibility that takes careful planning. Depending on the size of the group and the distance to be traveled, the amount of preparation varies. Having a plan and working out the details with the participants in advance will make your ride more enjoyable for everyone. The success of the tour will usually be determined by the attitude of the participants. If people know what to expect, they will be...

Plant City Rocks (Keep it Rockin')

Just in case you have been trekking in the Himalayas or white shark hunting in New Zealand the last couple of months and have missed the hottest new biker event in Central Florida, the new Plant City Bike Fest "Rocks". In my opinion. Plant City's first two monthly events surpass most veteran events and rank up there with some of the best in potential, including my favorites, Leesburg and Key West. Billed more like a bike night than a larger event, Plant City not only has brought in impressive biker numbers...

Southwest Florida Cruise

It is rare that I hear about a Florida route that I haven't traveled at least once. I first got Florida sand in my shoes in 1961 traveling with my family from Indiana on summer vacation.
